Kim Burton

Director, Education Abroad Program

Countries:

  • France
  • Belgium
  • Switzerland

In addition to directing the UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) for the UCSD campus, Kim advises students about study in France, and also advises Math, Chemistry, Physics and Sociology majors about their options to study abroad.

Kim’s passion for study abroad began during her undergraduate years when she studied for a year in Madrid, Spain.

After this life-changing experience, Kim returned to complete her degrees in Spanish and Music at Cal State Northridge, and worked in the study abroad office, first as a student assistant, and after graduation as professional staff for a number of years.

Feeling the need for another change of scenery, she went to Indiana University and earned a Masters Degree in Student Affairs Administration.

Upon returning to California, Kim began her UC career as the UCEAP Advisor at UC Davis. Four years later, she was hired as the Director of the Programs Abroad Office at UC San Diego, and has served in this position for 20 years.

Kim now directs UCEAP and encourages all students to investigate their options for study, work, internship and volunteer experiences abroad.  Additional travels and site visits have taken her back to Europe to a variety of countries, and also to Mexico and to Chile.

She is fortunate to maintain close friendships with several of the friends she made in Spain, and understands both the personal and career benefits that come from studying abroad.
